Founders Club at Estancia del Mar, Costa Rica

Rather than mimic the aesthetics and amenities of a top resort community, the creators of Estancia del Mar on Costa Rica’s Nicoya peninsula strived to imbue the luxury development with local color. The unique recipe includes the world’s first signature mountain bike trek, a 27-hole Arnold Palmer golf course and an equestrian center and polo school. Perhaps most distinctive is Estancia del mar’s civilized opulence, juxtaposed with the wildness of the Costa Rican rainforest.

The Costa Rican development is offering a series of limited Founders Club packages, bonding beachfront and golf course residences with additional prime real estate lots and lifetime memberships to the resort’s beach and golf clubs. Originally, it released 14 Platinum packages (only seven remain) at $1.25 million each. Platinum membership comes with a 3,500 square foot beach front residence and two adjacent hillside lots (one-third acre, plus). Estancia’s 40 gold packages include a 2,300 square foot golf course condominium and one hillside lot for $650,000. “Early investors get additional real estate, and in turn, they can sell any piece of the Founders package at any time throughout the process,” explains developer Tim Alexander.

But it is hard to imagine why anyone would ever let go of property on this tranquil peninsula, which has remained largely untouched by Costa Rica’s burgeoning tourism.

Estancia del Mar’s oasis in the lush Tambor Valley, spills onto the volcanic beaches of the Bahia Ballena, or Bay of Whales. Here the beachfront properties complement the site’s natural beauty through modern organic aesthetics: high ceilings, open spaces and “a seamless flow between the inside and outside,” says Layne Hirsch, president of Dreamscape, the project’s marketing company, further noting the 8 by 50 foot lap pool that runs right into the living room. An accordion-style glass door traverses the entire front wall to create what is essentially one large indoor/outdoor space, while the residence’s separate studio unit can be customized according to taste. Residents will also have access to the amenities provided by the development’s high end boutique hotel.
